South West Fletcher Boat Rally - Introduction

2014 SWFBR Gathering on Pontoon After 5 successful events that saw the rally extended to wider audience of sportsboat owners, the structure is changing and there is no currently planned South West Fletcher Boat Rally for 2016. The good news is that there will be a South West Sportsboat Rally instead at Brixham on the 2nd May Bank Holiday 2016! See here for details and to sign up! www.swsbr.co.uk.

Due to changing work commitments and too many other projects I will not be involved in the organisation for the Sportsboat event and this will be run by John and Anthony - both of whom have moved away from the Fletcher marque and who will be familar to previous participants. I am aware that many previous attendees (myself included) will be partaking in the new rally and I hope to see as many of you as possible there.

For my part, I'm hoping to resume the South West Fletcher Boat Rally either later in 2016 (September is a possibility) or in 2017. The intention is that new format will move around new locations each year as was the orginal aim of the event. This will enable the 'club members' to experience new waters together - with much of the research and planning done for them in advance. A number of prospective venues around the SW coast have been suggested or 'earmarked' and I'm hoping to start work on exploring and planning these in the New Year. Plymouth/Tamar, Falmouth/Fal and Padstow/Camel Estuary will likely be the first three, but the intention is to cover most of the popular boating destinations around the South West in the next few years - perhaps then moving further around the UK. I'm hoping that John and Anthony will continue to build on the undoubted success that the Torbay rally has become and wish them every success in this. We have clearly proved that these group boating weekends are not just great confidence boosters for those wanting to extend their boating, but also fantastic social events. We have all made some truely great friends.

For all previous attendees and anyone considering a first event, we look forward to meeting you at SWSBR in May!

Kind regards,
Robin Coomer

About Torbay & South Devon

Sheltered from all but Easterly winds, the naturally beautiful coastal waters around Torbay offer some great boating experiences. With launch sites in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham and a wealth of marine service facilities you need never be far from base. However for the more experienced mariners, South Devon offers many more miles of coastal exploration and even miles of river cruising up the river Dart to Totnes or water-skiing on the river Teign (temporary local ski club membership required).

There are secluded coves and sandy beaches both within Torbay and further afield to Teignmouth, Dawlish and beyond. Enthusiasts with larger vessels might even like to travel as far as the coastal towns of Dartmouth, Kingsbridge or Salcombe to the South.
